quick, fun, heart pumping thriller - a little simplistically written and corny at times, however

Action packed adventure with a nail-biting end.

Heather grew up in a small community and recently moved to Seattle where she trained to be a massage therapist, meeting and quickly marrying Tom, a widowed doctor with two children.

With Tom visiting Australia for a work conference, the family tag along to do some exploring. But one trip has serious repercussions when they decide to visit a nearby island. The island is run by one family, and they are not keen to let their visitors leave.

Used to being underestimated, Heather turns out to be the only one who can save the children, drawing on the the skills she learnt from her parents who had served in the armed forces.

Very disappointed. I found it hard to believe that the creator of Sean Duffy could write such a silly, cliche-riddled book as this one, a sort of "deliverance down-under" for credible Americans. I didn't waste my reading time to finish it.

3.5 stars.

I enjoy Adrian McKinty's writing style. He's very stripped and clipped -- both in The Chain and this book. It's written in a hardboiled style that makes it easy to inhale 50-100 pages in a sitting. There are also plenty of twists and turns along the way.

The final hundred pages felt a little tacked on. Not that the story elements were bad, but it felt like McKinty was repeating themes and action.

Still, a very solid thriller.

Amazing, fast-paced read, most especially if you love survivalist or hostage thrillers.

Really fun, quick read. Thrilling and exciting survival story
dark tense fast-paced

Every single character (except the kids) should have died in this, simply for how incessantly irritating they are were!
