A lot of what happened in this book was questionable and pretty much all the characters were problematic. The audiobook was enjoyable and I enjoyed most of the action but a lot of it was far-fetched.

A wildly unbelievable survival story, which seems to be increasingly trendy nowadays, about a family's  harrowing attempt to escape from an island. Filled with murderous crazy people. With guns, resources, and a raging blood thirsty attitude.

How tf am I to believe a family of 4, dad, step-mom, pre-teen son, and teenage daughter could possibly have any chance of survival in this story? At least 15 times I was like welp that one is dead. They were shot! Nope these people were like zombies, no matter what was done to them, they lived. 🤦‍♀️ Prepare to suspend all belief if you pick this one up. I love these type of survival thrillers. I also love thrillers that are turned into shows. This book is coming to Hulu. It wasn't horrible but it was definitely not very compelling or once again, believable.

I won't say who survives or if anyone survives so that's as far as the "spoiler" goes. A brief synopsis: American family of four travels to Australia for dad's conference. Attempting to see some sights and of course koalas, the family along with a dutch couple, takes some men up on an offer to explore their island. Once there something extremely unfortunate happens leaving the tourists in a dire fight for their lives. With no way off the island they must try to escape with no resources all while hiding from the island's inhabitants completely out of their element. They are dead men walking, or running. Story should of been over pretty quickly but nope they are apparently vampires or zombies or something. Sigh.

I tacked on an extra star because it was an easy read, with short chapters, which I always love. It did have quite a few suspenseful moments and I will still check out the show when it's released.

Jazda bez trzymanki, polecam.

I was waiting for a twist to happen the whole time. Never came.

Also big FU to the audiobook for scaring the shit out of me because someone thought adding gun shots was a great idea.

I'd give it like a 3.7 but I didn't enjoy it enough to round up to a 4 in the ratings. I don't know if it was just a me-problem, but I couldn't get into this book until over halfway through. I didn't feel any attachment to a single character for the longest time, and I believe character formation is one of the most important aspects of a book. I also thought the whole scenario was highly unrealistic given that what happened what an accident and there were so many people (including children) involved, etc. That being said, once I got further into the book I was intrigued and wanting to see what happens next. I also appreciated the unpredictability of much of the book, with McKinty leading you in one direction but then throwing in a plot twist. Overall, I wouldn't tell somebody not to read it, but I probably wouldn't recommend it to someone asking for a great book to read.
