A fun novella with an amazing, compelling world! The Wrath of Shadows is full of political intrigued and to die for (literally!) fight scenes. I'm curious to see where Vale takes this world next.

A worthy addition to the series, with a unique protagonist and enticing lore.

“Of course you are. Such a Southlandish thing to do, to voluntarily torture yourself,” Fiss’Q said.

Fiss'Q is chosen by the Shadow Prince and currently is part of the council of Arokhnai, living in the Emerald quarter of the city. One day she is attacked by a trio of assassins from the Smiler clan from the Southlands. She believes this is part of a plot to incite a war between the two nations and so must get to the bottom of the mystery before the reaction is decided.

An’alta nodded, glancing uncertainly at the three masks, the middle one bearing the blood on its lips at the insistence of Fiss’Q that it remain.

I did find this book to be more frightening and tense than the first. I really liked Fiss'Q and her backstory, as well as the abilities granted to her - though I did feel that compared to the characters in the first book, she was much more overpowered. Is there any way she could lose except to willingly want to die? I found it interesting that she was one of the only warriors on the council as well - it was very uncommon.

I liked the addition of another god to the pantheon of this universe. I liked the weapons and the battle descriptions - exciting again! I am still keen to read the next book in the series, hoping that there are only 4 total in this series.

Worth a read for sure.
