2/21/21 - I am legitimately dying at the "I stayed up till ONE AM reading it!!" like yes very cool christine u were a CHILD
--
I first picked up this book at my library bc of several friends who kept recommending about it (and bc of the fact I LOVED 100 Cupboards!!) That night (it was a Tuesday) I stayed up till ONE AM reading it!! I love it, it's a masterpiece and I could so imagine everything, it was very descriptive :3 I am currently reading the second book and still love it

2.15.19 - sometimes I forget just how much I love these books, and look! it's been over two years since I was first introduced to the wonders of the O of B. Cy & Tigs may seem annoying from time to time, but I was 12 when I read it so I kind of related to him and -cough- SIBLINGS. Also I'm older than Tigs now o_O
also I swear Cyrus has got to be the most #donewitheverything protagonist ever. He's legit just like, whatever, can I just survive throughout the entire series and it's amazing.

As a kid, I probably would have LOVED this. As an adult, I thought the language was great and the writing inventive, but it just didn't hold my interest in the long-term, so I gave up about halfway through. I would, however, recommend it to fantasy readers of the young-ish target audience.

Fairly intense and dark for YA. A complicated world that unfolds slowly over the course of the book. The characters a deep and relatable (though I wish the protagonists were a bit more likeable; I felt like you cheer for them because they're underdogs more than because they're particularly honorable or enjoyable), and the plot's engrossing. A good, complete story even as it sets the table for the following books in the series.

Once this started really going, I enjoyed it. Wilson seems to have a habit of very slow beginnings and very long (though pretty) descriptions, so I found it easier to listen to the audiobook than reading it myself.

This book had everything I look for in a novel - likable characters that are developed and believable and a story that captures the imagination from the get-go, carrying the reader off to a faraway place filled with adventure, intrigue and old fashioned fun!
