Overall kinda disappointing. The characters didn't feel all that fleshed out, especially Touraine. Every time I thought she was going to have a more introspective moment, it just kinda fizzled. I get having a slow realization but it felt like we never really got to see her have any realization at all. Also kinda same with Luca too, and at the end she still goes off to try to become queen--a "better" ruler than previous ones maybe but I wanted her to contend with maybe like...queens are bad in general? And I wanted Touraine to interact more with the sands, especially T'Bo (listened to the audiobook, no idea how to spell) bc he had a lot of ideas about the rebellion and empire and I wanted Touraine and him to butt heads/deal with their conflicting/changing views more on that. I have a lot of other thoughts, I liked other parts of it, but this is what I've got for now.

5/5 • Holy fuck. I’m actually shaking that was such a great book. Not only was it everything I wanted it to be, it was everything and more. It hurt me in the best ways and pieced me back together in the worst ways. UGH everything and I mean every detail was pure perfection. I cannot even begin to describe the extent of just how this book ruined me. Even towards the end it fed me hope and now I can’t wait for the next book to experience everything all over again. All I can say is thank you for this experience.
