I received a free copy of this novel from NetGalley in return for an honest review.

I requested this book because I had recently read Caught Between and Oops and a Hard Place and really enjoyed it, Whilst this was still a good read I didn't enjoy it so much.

Paige brings her 13 year old daughter back to the Island, she hasn't been back for 13 years or spoken to her grandmother in that time, she returns now to save her grandmother from something - what that is or how Paige knows about it is shrouded in mystery. Also, it is unclear to me why Paige felt the need to rush to her grandmother's aid when her grandmother appears to be the sort of woman who could stop a tank in its tracks.

Brody lives next door to Paige's grandmother Olivia. He too has a 13 year old daughter who he has only just found out about after her mother died in a car crash. His daughter Hope loathes him and he is in a bitter custody battle with her grandmother Matilda who runs the Island like her private fiefdom.

Delores is a somewhat deranged younger woman who is determined to marry Brody and topple Matilda from her Queen Bee status.

Despite her prissy ways Matilda is having a hot and steamy affair with Hanging Judge Harry - that is until he tries to bring their relationship into the open.

And there's a con-man, and a porn star and a mayoral race. If all of that sounds like something you would like then this is the book for you. I found it was all a bit too much. I also found it odd that Brody and Paige knew each from school and had even worked on restoring her grandfather's car together yet he had no idea about her parents - didn't even recognise them.

I will definitely read more of Sheila Seabrook's novels but this one was too busy for me.
