2.5 maybe? I'll need to think on it a little more

I didn't enjoy this quite as much as the first or third parts of the trilogy, but it is divine nonetheless.

You know, I don't know why everyone is hating on this book. I mean it was no Harry Potter by far... but I still enjoyed it. I am a little confused as to where the plot is going and slightly disappointed I have to read yet another book to figure it out... but I want to know the end! Plus I have always wanted to finish this series since I was little. Overall, an entertaining and quick read.

The book as a whole is a lot more engaging than the first in the series, but just as I got into it, the ending completely lost me. I hope I manage to get back on board in the next one..

Not as good as the first one, but still a well written, intelligent and delightful book.

This book is where the series really takes off—and in several ways. It moves settings rapidly and while the tone of the first doesn’t change, the almost rigid plotting of the golden compass is completely changed into a multi-POV, multi-world, crazy but somehow functioning plot in this book.

Pullman’s world-building skills are incredible and there were several moments that had me shaking my head in disbelief at the scope of it all.

This definitely suffers from second book syndrome as in it had a ton of build-up - which I understand - for the next book and I can't wait. So although it was a little slow, Pullman introduces a new beloved character that I can't help adore.
