Ok so I am biased as hell by the fact that my edition came with a CD sung by Deborah Mailman and I am just pretty much in love with Deborah Mailman (yes I know she is straight and married).

But more seriously I love that the book is beautiful and carefully presented. The little possum and its mother are too cute for words and I love just gazing at the pictures with the small children at work (who like to "pat" the baby possum on some of the pages). The scansion and rhyme of the adjusted song-words works well, in some cases I think better than the original. The mother in the story is a strong and brave protector that climbs, jumps/glides and always keeps her baby safe. The dangerous environment and its extremes are well presented but don't overwhelm the calm of the story.

I love possums, especially the gliders and I think they are worth knowing about for conservation purposes (also I think it's good for children in Australian settings to be aware of Australian animals as much as possible). The story-song is a good one for settling and calmness (sometimes entertainment is seen as having to be hypey but I like calm at times).

I like this book so much I wanted to give it five stars but I couldn't really think of a good enough excuse to.
