I knew I would love this book. Sometimes you just feel it. This story has it all - history, engaging characters, some suspense, moral questions, family history, happiness and sadness, and some life lessons. And that with very readable, engaging writing. It’s obviously written by a white male, however, e.g. in how females are portrayed, but nevertheless I really enjoyed this.

Although ignorance is bliss, in this case it lead to a lifetime of hatred and carrying out an unnecessary vendetta. A lesson in how not to live life for Abel but also how a good man can be tempered with moments when they feel pushed to act against their natural nature - William.
Enjoyed it.

It was such a long read and it took me more than a month to finish it. The build up of the story was great, however, the ending was so anti-climactic. I felt like it was so sudden. Considering the length of the book, I felt like some parts were too stretched, and I wished the author used some of that part to write a better ending.

Two men, Abel Rosnovski and William Kane, born world apart on the same day, come together to face a battle of wits. One is a Polish immigrant and the other is an American. They both are ambitious, arrogant, ruthless and powerful and struggle for an empire that only one man can have. The tale traces three generation down the lane. The two distinct families come across fortune and feud. They fight for Money, power and ultimately who wins over the other is the story.

Not many twists though but the last few pages are bound to keep you glued to the book. The characters are named beautifully throughout. Lot of stock market involved :) Take it and enjoy this classic read:)

The whole time I was reading this I was thinking 'wow, this author has no respect for women' and it took me way too long to ask myself why I was still going.

This is a MASTERPIECE

Compelling. With masterful storytelling, Archer pulls you in as you root for both Kane and Abel as they live parallel lives that eventually intersect in a difficult time. Then as the characters change, you want to shake them both and slap them silly so they can see how bitterness and vengeful living destroys. And then you reach the ending, which is sad but somewhat satisfying.
Note: a few scenes (one gut-wrenching rape scene in particular) keep this from being a clean read-- for those who care.
