It reads like a white man discovering civilization and being a savior to a petite little girl, while also simultaneously burning the ugly cannibal people he once climbed underground to spy on. Then he takes his time machine home.

This is an absolute classic that I believe kids would love. Purely an entertaining adventure story with a bit of "science" thrown in. Fun, sugary stuff.

The tense parts were great, but I got lost in some of the old language at times since this book is from 1895. I thought it was interesting that it was written to feel like you are sitting at the table with everyone else as the time traveler tells his story. I really liked the ending too, it could be used as a good writing practice.

The Time Machine does more in 100 pages than some books do in 400, it would be interesting to go back to Victorian times and be there for how readers would have reacted to this book in 1895. HG Wells was definately a visionary and well ahead of his time.

Probably a three in terms of enjoyment of the story, however it's very interesting to discuss in the context of the history of the Science Fiction genre and in terms of the thematic goals, so it gets a higher rating for that. I don't know if I'd recommend it for casual reading, but as an English student, it's an interesting read.
