I picked this book up hoping for a fun paperback fantasy series for the summer. It was good, but not good enough to really pick up the rest of the series. The writing style needed some work, and the story was super predictable. It was almost as if the author had a checklist of all of the fantasy themes and checked them off one by one. Masques was good, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Looking forward to the next book! :)

So that was actually a reread for me, and I loved it so much ! I remembered a bit of what was happening when I was reading it but otherwise it was like reading it for the first time !
Patricia Briggs is such a good writer, this story kept my attention the whole time I was reading it and I couldn’t stop myself, I had to finish it ! (That kept me wondering why the heck I never finished the serie when I first started it)

Wolf is mysterious, Aralorn is so bold it’s funny and stressful (Wolf’s gonna get grey hair real quick) ! Their relationship is so sweet, I almost jumped on the second book when I finished it because I wanted more !
The plot is captivating, it’s gore by times, scary in other times ( they have the same « zombies » as in WWZ, like the ex-olympic champions ones !)

All in all, I LOVED that book ! 5/5 star for me !

I have read the Mercy Thompson series so was very interested in PB's earlier work! This was her first published book! While it did not have the succinct development her long-running series has, it was a great read for a fan! I felt like I got an idea of where some of her future characters were born and influenced. Adventurous and some of the banter I have grown to love about Patricia Briggs' writing style :)

This was Briggs' first published novel, and it's a good one. Magic, shapeshifters (even into a mouse!), invisible beings, romance, and power struggles. Not a bad beginning...

As she mentions in the preface, this was her first published novel and it shows. However, it was still an enjoyable read.

This book was close to a four for me. It was campy and cliche-ish but the writing and characters saved it. If you fondly remember the fantasy movie boom of the 80s or the fantasy TV boom of the 90s, do yourself a favor and read this book.

Also, I read this as an audiobook and the narrator was great. Her voice keep reminding me of Susan Sarandon.

it was ok which means i should rate it a 2 stars right? but i like Patricia Briggs and the books was entertaining and a 2 star is such a low rating and i loved Wolf :D.

3.5 stars. I thought it was a solid fantasy read.
