I read this ages ago but for some reason never quite clicked that it was the same guy who wrote Timolean Vieta Come Home. I suppose I assumed it was one of the other 14,000 writers who share his name. Now, as we're reorganising our shelves, I came across it again and re-read it and enjoyed it just as much the second time around.

101 tiny pieces of flash fiction, each 101 words long, that straddle the line between short story, poem, and punchline. It should feel like a gimmick but Rhodes is skilled enough that it doesn't. Some stories are more impactful than others, but as a collection it's a great series of observations about love and relationships, taken usually to extremes, sublime and surreal, and occasionally surprisingly moving.

A fun little book of short stories. Enjoyed the more twisted ones. Probably more enjoyable to pick up and read one or two stories rather than all at once as it’s a little repetitive. Overall enjoyed it!

"Trick" was my favorite.

I think I had higher hopes than I should have for this book. The premise was intriguing and unique but it just wasn’t for me.

This is a fun little book to own. Each page contains a teeny tiny story about some (ex-)girlfriend. Some are sweet, others pretty twisted.
At times I thoroughly enjoyed it, but eventually I found it to be a bit repetitive. It probably works better if you only pick it up every now and then to read a story, maybe two.

Anyway, I'd recommend it if you're looking for something a bit different. It's quirky, it's short and it looks beautiful! Could make a nice gift, if, at least, you think the recipient shared Dan Rhodes humor.

It does make me want to read an actual Dan Rhodes novel though, so that is a good thing.

Sometimes tragic, sometimes funny, Dan Rhodes uses ironies and twists to tell 101 very short stories about the ways romantic love can look like. Sorted alphabetically by title, these 101 pieces of flash fiction are very similar to one another, but also very different. I’ve never read Dan Rhodes or a collection like this, but I’m excited to dive deeper into both. Also, the cover is absolutely stunning!

This is an odd yet strangely familiar collection of short stories that cover every aspect of romance from the intense highs to the all consuming lows. While each story is intense in the emotions that they portray and raise in the reader, I found the writing a little odd (can't quite put my finger on what or why), which kind of left me feeling a little meh by the end. I think if each was a little longer, each story was only a page long, it might've made more sense and engaged me more but I couldn't quite get into it as it jumped from one to another. Having said that though something about Rhodes writing appealed to me so I think I'll be looking out for him in the future.
