This novel is beautifully written and has an intriguing premise. However, in my opinion, it falls a bit short in execution. Maybe it is beyond me but I just couldn’t really get what message the author is trying to convey with this novel. And although Han Kang’s prose is indeed full of great metaphors and descriptions – the manner in which the characters were written about is quite impersonal so to be frank I couldn’t care much for them.

Slow paced but beautiful prose. Reflective study into language and human connection. Would recommend if you like poetic style but did find character development lacking with ending that left me feeling confused by the author's choice.
