Thanks to Del Rey Books for the free copy of this book.

 - LORE OLYMPUS, a retelling of the myth of Hades and Persephone set in a modern world, is by turns hilarious and dark, told with style and full of clever takes on well-known characters.
- My one small gripe with it is that I found some of the panels to be quite dark. Literally, I mean it was sometimes hard for me to see what was happening, though the story takes some dark turns as well. Aside from that, the art style is generally quite stunning.

I THINK IT'S TIME THAT I GET BACK INTO GRAPHIC NOVELS—also, FIRST READ OF THE YEAR! LORE OLYMPUS: VOLUME ONE definitely isn't my first brush with them. Back in my day (which was only a few years ago, less than half a decade ago), I was a part of my local library's book club and clung to the AMULET books quite well. It may have been because buying the series was too expensive at the time but now, after reading this graphic novel, I think I'm going to give the format a chance again. I've always been a comic lover at heart so I defiantly think it's time.
I originally tried reading Lore Olympus a while ago on Webtoon but being the migraine-prone person I am, I quickly gave up (though, I wish I hadn't). Earlier today during an impromptu trip to Barnes and Noble I picked up LORE OLYMPUS: VOLUME ONE. I cracked it open a few hours ago and was pleasantly surprised. The book is quite fast-paced and never failed to keep my attention. I've always been THE mythology kiddo, and my favorite musical is Hadestown, so I don't think the concept itself was what originally put me off. I definitely recommend it (but please check the trigger warnings first)! Here's to a year of great reads!

The art is BEAUTIFUL and I really loved some of the characters (like Hera and Hermes). There is a lot of sexual content (including sexual assault and one instance of r*pe) but that’s not too surprising since it is a take on Greek myth.
I just didn’t vibe with the story. It was entertaining but I wouldn’t read the second volume. Some of the dialogue seems a little cringe and cliche but it wasn’t too bad (sort of wattpad-y IMO). But it was a nice quick read nonetheless.

I love Lore Olympus!!! It's such a great graphic novel! I've been reading it on Webtoon for quite awhile, and I am so happy I was able to purchase it in print form! I've even pre-ordered the second volume!

I love the story of Hades & Persephone, and I also love that Rachel Smythe adds in the stories of other Gods, Goddesses and major players of Greek mythology. It is absolutely fabulous!
