cute/silly. the humor wasn’t always my thing but the graphics are pretty. Plus I know it’s basic but the hades and persephone retelling always hit a certain amount.

I was a bit doubtful about Lore Olympus as a retelling of the Hades and Persephone myth - mainly because I have been reading a lot of retellings, but most of those were 'serious'. I was worried about the vibe of this series, as it seemed quite child-like. But it is honestly so much fun (!!) - and definitely not child-like in terms of target audience. The deities are the perfect amount of childish and dramatic, the personalities and drawings fit very well. On to volume 2!

Well that’s just the cutest thing ever! It did go from light to very very dark in a snap, but it’s generally quite fluffy and cute. It’s also very much a feminist retelling, which I love. Can’t wait to read the next book!

A modernization of Greek Mythology, this volume creates an accessible, emotionally raw story that focuses on criticizing the amoral natures of the gods, and how close we can be in emulating them.

the art is gorgeous but the characters are flat/boring or unlikeable. i'm only rooting for & interested in Persephone & Psyche.
maybe it's greek mythology, maybe i don't know enough of it, or maybe it's maybelline but i'm not sure why Psyche and her family are so brown??? for context, i'm Black, and i love me some inclusion and diversity. but here, it feels like unnecessary inclusion of brown-skinned characters– unless all humans are brown in this retelling of greek mythology?? Rachel Smythe, maybe you can tell me why you chose (a lovely, rich shade of) brown for the humans, bc it feels tokenizing 😬
