This books deals with serious issues, that need to be addressed more. There are very dark themes, be warned some of theme deals with generational trauma, child abuse and sexual assault. I loved watching the art grow as the story did

Can I give this book 10/5 for being so stunningly beautiful and so sad at the same time!?

Dust off your Greek mythology text book because you’re going to need to brush up on everything you’ve forgotten from school. (Okay. Maybe a quick google search will do just fine.) But it will be 100% worth it to refresh your memory for this gorgeous and heartbreaking story.

These are not intended for children, or even young teens. The content is mature and upsetting (please see content warnings), but because the illustrations are so stunningly beautiful I can see why kids who love graphic novels and comics would want to read these.

I cannot wait to read volume two.

I love greek mythology, I love Hades and Persephone and I love graphic novels so I already knew before starting to read this that I would like it.
What I did not know though was that this graphic novel is portraying a lot of heavy topics and that caught me of guard. Especially the rape scene was a lot. But just generally I would not recommend this to everyone for that reason. I do think it was all handled really well and respectfully.
Please do look at the trigger warnings though! Since it is visually portrayed I think it can be especially triggering.

I really enjoyed reading this book though. The drawing style is gorgeous and I felt really immersed in the story. There is great attention to detail and that helps with the main problem I have with graphic novels (them feeling too short and the characters not being flashed out enough).

I am definitely reading the second book as well and I'm really excited for it too. The only reason this isn't a 5 star read for me is that it made me feel bad because of all the darker themes. It is really close though and I might give it 5 stars after a reread in the future.

This is my first experience with the Lore Olympis series. I wasnt aware of the online book until this one was popularize on booktok. I took a mythology class (involuntarily 😅) in college and it's pretty fun seeing this twist. It's definitely as dark as the actual mythology and some times I had to stop for a breather (that's where the .5 was docked... its a bit triggering at times, but that was to be expected). The art is beautiful and I'm excited to read volume two when I can!

I’ve never been super knowledgeable about Greek mythology, but knowing the backstories of the characters will probably heighten enjoyment. Outside of Persephone, the majority of characters look ageless, so even the parents of children look their same age which was slightly jarring. A point of contention is that Hades is older and more mature than Persephone.

The whole “meet cute” between Persephone and Hades is off. It’s a unique meeting but the reactions weren’t realistic.
if someone’s in the back of my car drunk, I’m going to be nudging them awake with an intensity. But Hades just calmly drives her to his house without asking questions. Persephone also woke up pretty chill. She was more concerned about her mom finding out then waking up in a strange man’s home (I mean she knows of him but not personally); which might actually speak to how restricting and scary her mom is.

The Webtoon version probably has maximum picture quality. Because some scenes, especially dark or at night scenes, are not clear. On the other hand, color direction was beautiful, and the art style had personality. Body language was well done.

Personal nitpick: I was so tired of seeing Persephone biting her lip; it’s not endearing, at least here. Yes, it’s a character trait, and it adds to her sense of naivety. But for some reason it annoyed me to no end that soooo many characters bite their lips in this story.

TW (there are content warnings included in the book but this is a bit more descriptive): sexual coercion, sexual assault, “locker room talk,” unhealthy (parental) relationships, kidnapping?
