Lore Olympus: Volume One by Rachel Smythe

I’ve only discovered this series a  few days ago and have been binging it online….this series is definitely not a retelling since it’s not remotely accurate to the myths at all. The Lore in Lore Olympus is 100% the authors own made up lore with the names of Greek Gods attached. So if you care for Greek Mythology then this story is definitely not for you.

Then it’s definitely not a Feminist story as advertised as the men especially Hades gets away with objectifying women with only a slap on the wrist. I say that because the two lectures he gets for it don’t actually have an impact and the ones who lecture him do a complete 180 right after. So Hades even when he’s the one in the wrong gets coddled a lot without any real consequence. Really the original myths are more feminist than Lore Olympus and that’s saying something.

Honestly despite Lore Olympus being a Misogynistic Abuser Apologist story it gets highly praised because it’s heavily masked by Therapeutic Speech and allows the audience to trauma bond with the characters. However the characters themselves aren’t at all fleshed out beyond their trauma and romantic relationships. They really don’t get to shine as individuals.

Overall this story is hard to follow as it not only jumps around but a good amount of plot lines don’t have endings they just fizzle away. This is 100% not a good story at all.

I do not understand the hype here. It was completely confusing and it jumps timeline without warning. The best part is the pictures, and even some of them are boring.  Will not be reading the rest of the series.

4.5 Stars. This is always such a beautiful and heart wrenching story. Smythe is an incredible artist and storyteller, already all of the introduced gods are so fleshed out and their motivations so easy to understand. The slow build of romance between Hades and Persephone is stellar and already has me eager to see how their love progresses. I think Smythe does well to show domestic abuse in a delicate and thoughtful manner. This was woven in elegantly with the rest of the novel.
