This book was a key element of my safety as a child. It also put me in direct conflict with the religious administration of my elementary school.

Although some of the approaches in the book is somewhat dated (the assumption of the cisgendered, heterosexual, loving couples as the source of all babies) the key understandings remain a useful way of introducing basic information about human reproduction. The book is not intimidating, it is clear and scientifically accurate.

I read this book to my almost 7 year old. She wanted to know how a daddy helps to make a baby. I think it is fairly straight forward, if a little dated. But I liked the terminology and the values. I like that it's referred to as 'making love' because the woman and man love each other, and that there are no references to it being okay for children to touch themselves in private, like there are in a lot of the newer books I read through. I ended up going with the older book because I didn't agree with everything in the newer books.
