This is one of my favorite fantasy series and this book did not disappoint. It was my second favorite in the entire series after Hollen.

In this book we are following the story of Magnus and Nadine. Magnus is a giant who seems to always be laughing and non-serious while still very much hurting over what happened to his best friend in the last book. Nadine is a super tough badass who is determined to remain independent and in control of her own life. The interaction between the two characters is what really makes this book great.

The author's world building in the entire series is one of the reasons I love this series so much and the continued description of the world in this book was also really good. The setting for this book was very different from the previous ones because they have to journey under the mountain on their mission. The sense of tension and dread I felt when they were all stuck underground was very visceral.

Over all I loved this book and would recommend the entire series. I can't wait for the next one!

I received an free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Can I just say that I may love Hollen the Soulless but Magnus really gave him a run for his money.

Denali does an exceptional job creating this world of barbarians who live on the mountain. And when she added in the tension of an angry, broken woman like Nadine into the mix I knew this was going to be good.

Nadine is the hellcat that Magnus has always claimed her to be and I loved her spirit. Her quick jibes at Magnus, Magnus’s smart remarks, it was a whirlwind of emotions.

And chapter 20?

You know those stories where the grump tries super hard not to fall in love with the cinnamon roll - this is what that is - except the grump is our heroine! Loved this one and it may be my favorite of the stories so far along with Book 1!

Magnus the Vast by Denali Day
She’d willingly march into hell… just not with him. After seeing her sister with her Na Dokiri husband and learning about her sister’s life. Nadine isn’t too thrilled at the idea of having to work with the same people who stole her sister from her, who stole everything from her. Now she has to deal with being bonded with one of them just to complete a mission to save her people, and to an arrogant savage no less. Nadine will not submit to this savage; she is a Captain and has been through worse things than this brute can image. She can overcome this, but can her heart? Also can Savage survive Nadine?

Okay Magnus is my favorite now out of all the brothers. The sarcasm, the way Nadine and Magnus interact with each other is just the best in the world and I just couldn’t stop laughing! But it also was so serious at the times when it needed to be and it made me cry or made me think. These two were absolutely perfect together; the way the relationship was written was just so creative. Day’s creativity and skill is really different in each book. It’s amazing to see her go between different writing styles especially when she deals with different personalities in the brothers and their wives. Then building the different realms and different scenes; like under the mountain, along with the different types of creatures that are featured on and under the mountain.
Nadine was a supreme Hellcat and is not afraid to show it and take anyone on that challenges her! She’s the type of woman to make you on her good side and don’t want to piss her off. Life has made her who she is; she will let you in on her own accord or use you to her wishes.
Denali went all in with Magnus and Nadine; like this was spectacular. I just can’t get over how the two of them just fit so perfectly together. The best couple out of all the brothers so far; take there is one brother left. I hope to see more of these two in the next book. But I also can’t wait to see how Denali does the last brother!

Good story.
Strong heroine.
Bit enemies to lovers troupe.
They form an alliance to beat a common enemy.
Other man drama. Heroine has a close friend who is a fellow soldier and doesn't realize he would like more.
No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine.
Neither are virgins.
The Hero's brief experience is touched on that happened in previous book.
It would make sense to read the series in order as a couple per book but enemy thread runs through series and develops through each book.
No much detail in intimate scenes.

Spoiler.

I did feel although they did gain more knowledge of their enemy, they didn't actually accomplish much infact they caused a few issues with their actions in this book.

HFN.

Breadcrumbs dropped for future books in series.
Previous couples don't really feature as couples, his brothers pop up from time to time.

ARC.
