It was a very basic concept of someone stealing a baby (this is even hinted in the blurb which’s annoying) so I thought the story might have more of a twist or something but it was just a story. I thought the writing might be a bit more funny with it being Dawn French which is why I picked it up. It’s obvious some of the things Minnie did as a kid her kids did and she just wanted an outlet to write about this. I thought the writing was quite slow placed at times and too descriptive for example it took like 3 pages just to describe how Hope got out the hospital. The only likeable characters were Minnie and Lee because all the others had flaws I didn’t like. I think it is an unrealistic story which I sometimes have problems with. And I think there should have been an argument in the book about how Minnie’s heart condition could have been dealt with sooner if Hope actually enrolled her into a doctors and that should have had impact on her sentence realistically as that is like child neglect. I think she might have had a better life with Hope since Anna and Julius had divorced but I think Anna would she’s been a good mum too. I wanted to reach to read more of French’s books and with this being her latest I thought she would have mastered her writing style but if they are all this descriptive then maybe I will give them a wide birth. The ending of Hope hanging her self to give Minnie her heart was quite a twist but I also saw it coming by like 10% but I didn’t know which character would do it. But I think that was a bit mean of Hope as Minnie would really want her mum and I would be devestated. I wouldn’t mind a sequel of Minnie and Anna’s relationship and also Isaac’s relationship but I doubt that will happen. I don’t think this book will be that memorable so while I still enjoyed it and 3.25 may be a little harsh, I just feel like there are way better books out there. I liked the comment on unconditional love though. Maybe I would like it more if I was a mother.

Very cosy read but does have triggers of Infant loss, stillborn and heart related issues.
I found the story to be very cohesive and carried itself nicely throughout the book. The ending is a little sad but the maral of this story focuses on the power of love and the importance of family, whether they are biological or not.
I could understand the mental state that Hope was in when she did what she did however wrong it was.
I do wish we saw more of Ann's story and how she dealt with life more than the self-centred ex husband point of view who was written very well as you hated him just as you were meant to.

It has the right mix of tragedy and comedy.
