This book absolutely destroyed me. With a devilish black lab that has so many parallels to Marley, it was incredibly relatable, but also having an old pup it ripped my heart in two knowing dogs don’t live forever. I quite literally sobbed throughout the final 50 pages.
one of my all time favorite books about dogs and their lovable idiosyncrasies!
I knew going in that Marley was going to die and that it'd haunt me so I read until it was clear that the end was coming and closed the book and pretended it ended there. People ask me how I could just read that far and put it down but I don't regret it one bit. I can handle fictional human deaths but animals undo me.
Funny!! Takes place in South Florida -- always enjoy reading books based in Florida.
The story of Marley and his owner is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. Marley becomes a dog too hyper to handle, but his family never gives up on him. I cried towards the end, because I love animals. The book did feel a bit too long though.
Not something I normally would choose to read. I'm wary about memoirs that seem overly sappy. I started reading this and lost interest after the first couple chapters, but picked it back up, and skipped a couple chapters ahead, and I really am enjoying it. It's light, light reading. And I'm a dog lover, so there's that.

"Marley and Me: Life and Love With the World's Worst Dog" by John Grogan is a touching memoir that captures the essence of companionship, chaos, and unwavering love. This book is not just a heartwarming story about a lovable but unruly Labrador but also a poignant reflection on the ups and downs of life itself.
At its core, "Marley and Me" is a true-to-life account of the Grogan family's experiences with their beloved but exasperating dog, Marley. From the beginning, Marley is portrayed as the world's worst dog. He's undeniably destructive, overly energetic, and sometimes wholly unmanageable. However, this story isn't merely about Marley's antics; it's about the profound bond that forms between him and the Grogans.
John Grogan's writing is heartfelt, honest, and incredibly relatable. He beautifully narrates the challenges and joys of raising a pet, transforming Marley's misadventures into moments of laughter and love. His ability to infuse humor into the most chaotic situations makes this book endearing. Readers will find themselves laughing at Marley's escapades while shedding a tear over the touching moments that remind us why we choose to share our lives with pets.
Throughout the book, Grogan's storytelling is remarkably candid. He doesn't shy away from the less glamorous aspects of pet ownership, like chewed furniture and endless messes, making it easy for readers to empathize with the chaos in their lives. His introspection on the changing dynamics within his family as they navigate career changes, parenthood, and other life challenges adds depth to the narrative.
The book also delves into the inevitability of aging and the heartache of losing a loyal companion. Grogan captures the emotional rollercoaster that is part and parcel of a pet owner's journey, and it's impossible not to feel deeply connected to the Grogans and Marley's story.
"Marley and Me" is a story that transcends the boundaries of pet ownership. It's a testament to the enduring power of love loyalty and the lessons we learn from the animals that become part of our families. Whether you're a pet lover or not, this book will resonate with you, reminding you of the profound impact our furry friends can have on our lives.
Ultimately, "Marley and Me" is a heartwarming, life-affirming tale that tugs at the heartstrings. It's a celebration of the everyday joys and tribulations that come with being a dog owner and a poignant reminder of the unconditional love that our pets offer us. John Grogan's storytelling is impeccable, and this book is a must-read for anyone who has ever experienced the profound connection between humans and their four-legged friends.

Oh, Marley! This is a great book & a testament to how pets can become family and how much we love them and they love us in return.
There are many lessons to be learned from an animal which is headstrong and almost controllable.
