It’s well written and a good read. I like the melancholic tone of the book. Quinn is struggling and it SHOWS in every chapter, and I appreciate that we get the full extent of how depressing and bleak her life feels to her. It’s a really engrossing read and I appreciate the topics that she brought up and how hard it is for our protagonist.

However, WOW did this couple need therapy, and to talk to each other every once in a while. And I think it was pretty difficult to root for them because I didn’t even really get why they were into each other? I can get it for the present day chapters with this issue overwhelming them, but their past chapters were just all sex. Like good for them on their physical compatibility, but what do they have in common? What did they like to do with each other besides that? What do they LIKE about each other besides Graham “knowing” her and their physical connection? It’s very hard for me to root for them when I can’t see why they’re even really together in the first place.

This is going to be a really complicated review and rating. On StoryGraph it’ll probably be a 3.5.

As with all CoHo books, this isn’t a “romance” in the traditional sense. It feels like a book about trauma and grief where they end up together in the end. If you’re looking for something lighthearted and hopeful, this isn’t it.

I did really enjoy the back-and-forth with half the book being the “before” of a happy relationship and the “after” being a marriage on the rocks. It created a good deal of suspense for me.

I kept thinking as I read, I’ve NEVER seen someone who needed deep, thorough therapy as much as now-Quinn. She was a WRECK. Understandably so, but man, it was hard to stomach.

The ending honestly decreased my rating. It was VERY condescending, summarizing the point of the book in clear black-and-white. I HATE that. Colleen, I just read the entire book. I have basic reading comprehension skills. Lighten your hand.

MAJOR TRIGGER WARNING FOR THE FOLLOWING.

If you want a book that focuses almost exclusively on infertility, this one’s for you. I found the main character to be extremely unrelatable and unlikeable, but maybe someone who has gone through her struggles would have a different opinion. I thought the book was pretty cheesy and forced in a lot of ways and had too many eye roll moments. I read this to try and understand the hype behind Colleen Hoover’s surge in popularity recently, but after finishing, I just don’t get it. Maybe I’ll try another.

Nothing gets me more frustrated than characters who suck at communicating when they had all the chance they could get. To be fair, I didn't like them both anyway so it's probably no use getting disappointed. Also I don't really have anything else to say about it.... I guess it did offer an okay resolution towards the end, but I can't help but laugh at the letters. Like why???

Overall, a lot of things just really threw me off here. I had to painstakingly get through each chapter in the hopes that it'll improve, but nah. It's is a no-good read for me. Thank you, next.

This powerful, emotional story really packs a punch as to the impact of infertility on a couple.
