IMPORTANT: Do NOT read this book if you're triggered by bullying, assualt, or stuff like that!!

The story
So the story starts where Orientation Week left off; Zela goes back home after the blow-up with Cameron, missing her placement test and becoming an F-er (and no, that isn't me cursing, that's what they're called). She goes back to Breakbattle Academy, learning quickly what life in the F-group means and what it means to piss off the Elites.

In my opinion is it very important that you've read Orientation Week, even though it's book 0.5, it gives a LOT of background information you'd otherwise miss. It explains the whole school and how everything works, so I'm glad I read that one first, because it isn't really explained in this one.

Again, I don't have a lot to say about the story. I loved it. It kept me on edge, wanting to figure out what happend to Zela and what those little weird flashbacks are. Seriously, what happend? And why is she after Derek?

Besides that, I am taking one star off because I absolutely hated how she was treated. I know it's a high-school bullying book, but it made me really uncomfortable. This is definitely my own fault, but it just made me like the book a little less. Especially the ending,
Spoiler I don't see myself liking the guys anytime soon, because that was seriously messed up. Only stopping when they realised she was a girl; that's seriously not okay. Like they thought it was okay if Zeke was a boy; NO!!! Guy (sexual) assualt is just as bad, and just as much of an issue. I was seriously so mad about this, I don't see the 'harem guys' rising in my esteem at this point.

I also hated Cameron's plan. It was obvious where it was going, but I hated it so much. Damn. But I must say, everyone battling her was quite cool, and how Zola picked herself up and fought for it, I love it. But it was really hard to read about how they kept picking on her..

That being said, I loved, LOVED, some of the characters, and let me tell you why;

The characters
Zela is still her witty self, and I adore it. Even though she's placed in F, she still has this great friend group who support her no matter what. Love it. The way she improves herself so she can kick everyone's ass is just great to me. Adam is still one of my favorites, especially because of that ending.
Spoiler He immediately accepted her as a girl, and didn't make a problem out of it at all. I was so glad! Speaking of that ending, Derek has my whole heart at this point. He will go through actual hell and back for her, he is so, SO great. I love it aaah! I am really intrigued about why she's after him though, what's the reason that she went to this school..? Why does she want to get closer to him? Aaaah, the suspense is killing me! I'm thinking
Spoiler she somehow thinks they're family or something, idk!!!

So last book I kind of liked Cameron, I really wanted him to end up with Zela. This time around however, I can actually punch him in the face. What an ass. Just like Zach, I hate his guts.
Spoiler I can't see him keeping her secret, so that's going to be interesting..
At this point I don't care for Landon, Michael or Cole, I cannot believe they'd just stand by like that. I don't think they can redeem themselves in my eyes at this point, but maybe I'll feel differently in the next one. I do hope
Spoiler Landon is at least bi, so he won't be too mad about her actually being a girl.

Overall conclusion
So, I loved this one again. I'm really waiting for the romance part to start though, I'm glad we got some action in this one, although it wasn't a lot. I expect way more of it in the next one,
Spoiler now that they know she's a girl.
I hated, HATED, the ending, although I love Derek to bits because of it.
Spoiler So the secret is out,
and I can't wait what will happen next!! There is mystery, which keeps me on edge, and the slow burn romance has me wanting more. Can't wait!

Okay shit gets real in this story with Cameron arranging for Zela to be constantly challenged to battles. Since she had no privileges to take, they took a lot of her personal items like towels and chair etc. I don't know how the principal approved of that. But I guess bullying is okay once its against boys. I loved how Zela stood up for herself and fought back. We still don't know why she needed to get close to Derek but he really really sticks by her. Him and Adam. Not much romance and only one kiss but they're still in the crush phase since Zela's only 15. The last scene made me want to jump into this story and fight those dudes. Her so called friends have a lot of apologizing and groveling to do.

- queen of making me stay up late to read when i should really be asleep
- (i mean i always do that but that’s irrelevant)
- also queen of LEAVING ME HANGING ALL THE TIME
- I’M SICK OF IT
- AND THEN SHE’S VAGUE WITH THE DESCRIPTIONS FOR THE NEXT BOOK TOO???
- AND THERE’S REALLY NO UPDATES UNTIL THE BOOKS JUST DROP???
- WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH MY LIFE??
- 15/10 appreciate zela’s friendship with adam
- actually her relationships with all the (important) guys are lovely
- you always have to second guess them
- 20/10 appreciate val and the boys’ appearance forever and always
- even tho it’s still kind of similar to evergreen (enough where people might find it boring or annoying) i still like it but also still want a little more originality
- ngl at this point i trust ruby with my life
- so.... do we really have to wait until january for the next book?
