Returning to Four Paths was a breath of fresh air; I really enjoyed the eery, atmospheric buildup that was provided in [b:The Devouring Gray|36535913|The Devouring Gray (The Devouring Gray, #1)|Christine Lynn Herman|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1543850974l/36535913._SX50_.jpg|58262762], which left me prepared to find out more regarding The Beast and Gray in [b:The Deck of Omens|40204193|The Deck of Omens (The Devouring Gray, #2)|Christine Lynn Herman|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1570119199l/40204193._SY75_.jpg|62409810]. What started out as backstory in book one has bled into determining a plan to defeat the evil entity encompassing the founding family's beloved home, while also dealing with personal struggles pertaining to each character individually. This sequel was again, very atmospheric, but also felt a bit more manic in the sense of everything coming to fruition, rather than the slow building suspense of the first book. A wonderful conclusion to the story, and I look forward to reading the author's future endeavors.

This is the 2nd book in a duology series, The Devouring Gray, about a small town in upstate New York and the four (4) founding families fighting against a supernatural/magical being/area to protect the town and its citizens. The books focus on five (5) children (teenagers) from the founding families and their fight against the antagonist.
My review is light on specifics because I do not want to unwittingly way into spoiler territory. This story is a bit fantasy, a bit of romance including a slow burn romance (which I was so here for), enemies to friends, finding your own voice, redemption, reuniting of family and found family with a curvy plot twist or two. I enjoyed the emotional growth and evolution of the main characters. The events of the story happen in a relatively short amount of time and since they are teenagers, we do not see the entire journey but enough to know they are on the right road to continue their healing and growth by the conclusion. There is a nice balance between the main plot and the backstory together with the world building to make a complete story. I LOVED the story, especially the conclusion, which I absolutely adored. It is said the sign of a good book/series is when it ends you want more, well, with this book/series, I want more. This book/series is a great easy enjoyable read with fantastically lovable but flawed characters that you root for to overcome and persevere against the antagonist and their own personal issues. For your reading pleasure, I recommend The Devouring Gray and The Deck of Omens by Christine Lynn Herman.

Wait I loved this. The character development, the relationship dynamics, the setting, the lore, the twists, all of it. I really really loved this. I still stand by the fact that this series is Diet Raven Cycle, but I don't mean that in a bad way at all. The Raven Cycle is fantastic, and I want to go back to Henrietta a million times over, so to have another series that reminds me of the magic of that series is NEVER going to be something I complain about. These are not perfect books, but I thoroughly enjoyed my time in both of them, and I would die for Isaac Sullivan. Thank you, goodnight.

Such a fantastic, satisfying conclusion to the duology!! Creepy and atmospheric, I enjoyed every single word so much!
This series was a steaming pile of rubbish.
I was so excited to read these books and I’ve been let down.. HUGELY.
The characters? Bland. The story line? Messy. The writing? Childish.
Just.. yeah... never reading these again. I don’t want to see these books ever again.
