I really liked the magic system of the book, and the ways in which characters drew on different planes. I wanted to like Cade more but I just couldn't get behind his angsty shtick. I struggled with some of the more visceral gore descriptions, and there was such a prevailing theme of expecting every adult character to apparently want to or be actively fighting base urges to abuse (sexually and not) children that I found uncomfortable. I liked Corrigan, and Arademous (the rat mage) really shined for me.
