Uncertain if I’ll read the next book, I certainly won’t be waiting for it

This book is very well written and the characters, though not exactly lovable, are fleshed out. The concept of aliens kidnapping and enslaving us is probably as old as the idea of aliens, but I like how this book introduces information about the aliens a little at a time, because of course communicating with their chattel wouldn’t be anywhere on their priority list. I also appreciate that the aliens have a completely different view of life and the Universe and those philosophies also get revealed a little at a time.

This... really fell flat for me. I was so excited to read this because I've really enjoyed the few Expanse books I've read from this author duo, but this one... just never clicked for me. That's not saying this is a bad book in any means, I just don't think it was for me. Why? I really don't know. Maybe it was the lack of solid push with the characters to free themselves or get information (I mean they're scientists, they just kind of accept the shit they're given until someone who isn't part of their original team pushes them to want to know information), which I sort of understand because of the intense trauma of the whole situation... but still, something was missing for me.
I got around 60% through and was seriously considering DNFing, because I just didn't care to pick the book back up; but I made myself, because I had been so excited to keep going - but honestly, this is going to leave my head faster than I read the book. Which is so sad, because I do think it is an interesting look at trauma and the human experience of dealing with intense grief.
Will not be continuing this series.

I ate this up. Maybe I did find the fake science-heavy bits to drag a little, but this is a foray into a fascinating new world and I would like more, please. (I'm trying so hard not to compare this to the Expanse because it's not the Expanse and there was definitely part of me that was sad about that.)
