This was a chore to get through. Right from the start we're bombarded with sexism after sexism and objectification of women. The characters all feel cartoony and they act on whims. I continued reading just because the idea was interesting and I was hoping Philip K. Dick would actually do something with it.
I understand that this could have been groundbreaking for its time, because the idea is out there. But it gets ruined by the characters and a plot that feels like pure stream of consciousness.
Not for me.

This is Dick's scariest and strongest book. He found it personally so frightening that he could not bring himself to proofread it, so someone else did it for him.

This book is surreal, as is somehow normal for PKD. I've loved almost every short story of his that I've read, and almost none of his novels. I want to read The Man in the High Castle, the one he won his Best Novel Hugo for, maybe I'll like it.

A fun, sometimes challenging but overall very interesting read. I saw another review likening it to an acid trip and that is quite comparable here. Worth it for those who have enjoyed other PKD books.
