Love, maybe—or just something that disguises itself as love, a spark of that madness that makes even prudent men foolish, reckless, dangerous… the madness that disguises itself as courage, that you don’t recognize for what it is until it kills someone you love.
Graphic: Dementia and Infidelity
Moderate: Drug use and Forced institutionalization
Minor: Homophobia, Suicidal thoughts, and Pregnancy

Starts out as a family drama and a lovestory, and turns into a thriller. Not bad, though the main character is rather bland, and while most of the plot slogs along with historical descriptions of the olden days, the actual twists happen too quickly and barely receive any attention.

Not too shabby. Lots of family drama and a little intrigue. I was a bit grossed out at the end but...yeah I really liked this one.

I rate it 4 stars because it is well-written. The plot kind of falls apart for me toward the end, and it was a little more predictable than I think the author intended for it to be. It's good enough. I'll probably read it again in a few years.

This one was an incredibly slow burn. The writing was delicious and though I don't love Then/Now stories, I did enjoy the weaving of this one. The twist, though, I hated more than anything. The main character was dull and knew it, which doesn't make reading about her any fun. The grandmother was mysterious and the betrayal was something that could be sniffed from a mile away. I wouldn't say go out and buy this book immediately, but if you see it available at your library, you might enjoy venturing into a well-written narrative on your weekend off.
Thanks to William Morrow for granting my wish on NetGalley and sending me the EPUB.
