This was a remarkable story about a Chinese American girl growing up in San Francisco in the early 19th century.
Her daydreams of rocketships and going to the moon and how society wants her to be have always clashed.
Until she speaks to the only other girl in advanced math that believes in her dreams.
Together they try to find their place while trying to find out who they are.

Oh I absolutely adored this! First off props to the audiobook narrator who had some truly fantastic line reads and did an amazing job with the accents and different character voices.
This book managed to capture so many things such as the joy and fear that comes with exploring a new and foreign place like a night club. The way your first queer love feels. The way meeting someone you built up in your mind can be in reality.
And I especially appreciated its approach to racism as not this thing only hyperbolic evil people do but something that be casual and permeate otherwise safe spaces.
Shirley and Lily's friendship and falling out also felt very real and given the weight it deserved.
