Ridiculous Level Humor makes up for mediocre writing and plot

Is this the best mlm shifter book I’ve ever read? Nah. Is it the steamiest? Nah. Is it at least coherent though? Mostly. I’ve definitely read ones that had a worse writing style.

It definitely had me laughing the hardest and that’s worth something to me. Especially since I’ve been in a reading slump. I had a blast explaining the absolute nonsense that is this book to friends, family, basically anyone who would listen.

It’s like a naughty coffee table book that starts conversations. Explaining the mechanics of a potato erotically rolling around on a man’s chest and then proceeding to “balance” atop certain erect anatomical parts made my husband almost shoot soda out of his nose. It was great.

And a quick read- only took about 2.5-3 hours out of my life total. If that. Totally worth it.

Listen I went into this book fully expecting to hate it. My friend saw a TikTok about it and she knows I’m down to read anything especially if it’s weird and wacky.
That being said I’m exactly the target audience for this book. It’s weird it’s wild and the sex is written pretty good! Not life changing by any means but it was good.
I’m giving props to the author for somehow creating the weirdest type of shifter I’ve ever seen and somehow still having it make sense to my little pea brain.

Points taken off because the way Tala talks specifically in the beginning chapters is jarring - he swears in every sentence almost and it’s hard to get into the book. The pacing goes from normal to batshit insanely fast in the middle with a ton of time skips at the end. It feels like the ending was rushed and some plot points were skipped over.

Look, it's a potato shifter and his fated werewolf mate. I don't know what you want from me. It's my life's mission to devour all bizarre shifter romances.

And you're definitely going to catch me reading more JP Sayle. This was fun.

This was the weirdest book I've ever red so far.
It kind of worked though.
But it's not really my thing.

This is the most random and ridiculous book I've ever read. Makes a great topic when I'm drunk.

This book was very funny. It's meant to be satire so nothing really makes sense but the plot is very well developed (and aside from the ridiculous occurrences which are intended, very good) and the writing is very good! I didn't expect to love the characters but before I knew it I loved them! If you're looking for a satirical read, this was very good!

Y'all know that the outlier shifters are my bread and butter. If there's a unusual shifter in the book I am going to break my ankle running to read the book. This book...while silly at first blush in premise, was fantastically written. How this book manages to take itself entirely seriously--yet still throw in the most ridiculous jokes--I have no idea. Am I still giggling that there was a potato named Russ? Yes, yes I am. Tala and Frenchie were a joy to read. WHERE IS BOOK 2??? BOOKTOK, GET ON THIS.

Five stars for pulling off such an insane concept with complete dedication and unflinching dedication to all the tropes of the shifter pack alpha MM romance genre. Literally, no flinching and completely to genre standard. How? I read it and I'm still trying to figure it out!
