Kinda hate how up and down this series us for me. First one was okay then second one was great and this on was okayy lol i didnt not like how this one ended and idk if i want to read the last book lol
This book was better than the second. It had some more entertaining things happen and it was more enjoyable to read. I loved that we went back to some of the political intrigue which personally I love to read. Definitely going to read the last book to see how all this ends.

I had so much I wanted to say about this book but then when I was hit with the ending it went through the roof. My poor girl Mare can barely catch a break. Who can she really trust!? These brothers and their kingdom and their power and their crowns, I cannot deal. How can you be such a disappointment? Yes, you Cal! After everything you’ve been through, everything she’s been through, this is how you treat her? Shut up. Because let’s not forget the literally trauma Mare had to go through. Guys, please, I’m affected but this book. Honestly, and respectfully, I couldn’t give a singular shit whenever we had Evangeline’s point of view. Like girl, you’re not the main character yo think you are. So you’re telling me, that all of this, ALL OF THIS, war, cruelty, slavery, abuse is because Maven is a stupid teenage boy wanna be tyrant king that is infatuated, no, besotted, NO, OBSESSED with Mare Barrow. A girl, he rightfully cannot have!? This mad, maniacal and manipulative boy king is nothing but a menace and pure evil. I will only accept slander against him here. Propaganda I’m not falling for: Maven isn’t evil. I’ve never wanted to bitch slap a fictional person more.

King’s Cage was.. alright. I listened to it on audio and it took me the full three weeks that I had it checked out for to get through. The scenes were meandering and slow. Mare’s “cage” was NOT a cage in the slightest, more like a 4-star hotel room. I just felt like this was a lot of filler and not a lot of substance. The “sex” scene too was just... gross! Having sex in the rain outside is not hot okay, it’s just not! I don’t really love Mare as a character and her POV’s were literally 80% of the book. Evangeline’s character arch was surprising and I actually really liked that, she has a few POV chapters in this book. And Cameron also shares some POVs, which were fine. Those two definitely provided a nice break from Mare’s constant whining.
