I both liked and didn't like this story. I knew it was short so there is a huge risk that I wouldn't get the detail and emotion that I usually like. However, the ending was a nice twist that makes me wonder what happens next. This is a cliff hanger so no HEA.

This is a plot that we've seen before but the author has written it so well that I felt it was like nothing I've read before!!!!
Let me just say that I absolutely loved Hailey. She is a wealthy girl, with a strong family name, but she wants to make it on her own. She has her own place, she is an intern and she wants to escape her family's constant scandals. It seems like she can't though.
Then we have Cole. Cole is an ex-navy SEAL and he is under the employment of the Reid family. His job is to protect all family members and Hailey as well.
There is a strong attarction between them, an attraction that Cole tries to ignore by hurting Hailey while trying to keep his distance....Until he cannot do that anymore.
Passion and lust blooms and their encounter cannot be forgotten...Until, something happens. A very clever twist that I never saw coming concludes the first part of the series and adds to the mystery that is Cole!
Excellent writing, unique twists and turns, passionate scenes and a cliffhanger that will have you craving for more!
Cannot wait for the next part!
5 Stars from me!

I have decided to split this review into two parts: one that discusses what I enjoyed and the other about the things I didn't or would like to have seen. This review will be written in dot points for easy consumption.

What I liked:

- The sexier scenes and sexual tension was enjoyable.
- I liked the main characters and thought they were interesting
- I liked the development of the relationship even though I think it could of been better if it was expanded upon a bit more before they got together.
- It was a quick, engaging and entertaining read.
- I liked the representation of curvier bodies within the novel.

What I didn’t like:

- I did not like how short the novel would be and that it was split into 3 parts. I think it would of been better if it was combined together.
- I wish we got more character development in relation to both characters. I wished we got to know Cole more.

2.5-3 stars

I didn't love it. I didn't hate it. I guess I kinda sort of liked it? This was going to be a 2 star read for me until the ending. The ending caught me and has me wanting to read the second book.

I know it's a serial, but I suspect I would have enjoyed this more if part 2 were included in part 1 like a full length novel. That way more character development would be grouped together.

Don't really have much else to say. Except it really was very hot. I will give it that :)

I received an arc copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

It was.... ok. I guess. I could've done with more sexiness, but it was a short book so.. I'm not impressed enough to keep reading the series .

Alright, I admit that I picked this one up because I kept seeing it pop up in my thread and everyone was loving it. If all of the cool kids are reading and loving it, I needed to find out what all of the fuss was about. Now here's where my dilemma comes in. I don't normally read serials unless it's already a completed series because best case scenario, I really enjoy the story and because it's a short book just as it gets really good- BAM-there's a big old cliffhanger with an ending that leaves me writhing and twisting on the precipice. That sensation is not one that I typically enjoy as the impatient reader that I am. But alas, I requested the ARC and dove in anyway knowing that it would leave me treading water. Can you guess what happened to me after I read this sexy short story? That's right boys and girls, I enjoyed it, found it entertaining, and BAM-I'm left twitching on my couch needing to continue the story. However, no matter how many times I attempted to swipe from right to left on my Kindle screen no more of the story would appear. Sigh...I have no one to blame but myself. All Aisnley Booth did was present an entertaining read that was clearly marked as a part 1 of 3 and I knew there would be a cliffhanger of an ending yet I ventured in anyway. If you enjoy a hot sexy serial read this is an excellent one to pick up, just be prepared to wail just a little at the end.

I am writing reviews on all three. I highly recommend you just get all three because you'll want to know how the story ends. This is not your typical boy meets girl, girl likes boy but doesn't want to, boy wins over girl. Think of this as a long Scandal episode with lots of steam.

Cole is charged with taking care of PR political mess that is Hailey’s family. They don’t want to want each other, but they can’t stay away. And then things get really complicated...I think there’s a romance here somewhere...

The Good, The Bad and Everything In Between

-Kindle Unlimited and eye-catching title: Jeezus, I couldn’t resist. I said to myself I wouldn’t, but I kept coming across that title and I finally clicked it before I could change my mind. Whether I believe the title’s accurate or not (more on that later), it does get your attention. That it didn’t cost me any add’l money, sealed the deal.

-Novella length makes it a quick and easy read: it’s 82 pages, and the time flew by.

-Chemistry draws you in: I’ll admit, I’m surprised by the heat between Cole and Hailey and how it captured my interest.

-The suspense part has promise: I like the idea of this PR/other scary secret things group working to handle PR crises, while possibly working for the government. That it’s run by several hot men (naturally) sure doesn’t hurt.

-But the title is more for show: One of the things I’m not as fond of is that the “hate” between Cole and Hailey is ill-defined. I’m not sure why she’s supposedly hates him, and why she’s such a good girl, since we barely get to know her family. This is an issue of the page count. I’m hoping that it gets fleshed out more in the next installment, but for the most part, I feel that it’s contrived for conflict than genuine, believable hatred.

-what’s the definition of insanity? Reading a cliffhanger serial: Full disclosure, this format drives me nuts. The story flow is so different and frankly, I rarely think they’re worth it. They will frustrate you and the payoff isn’t always there. But I find myself trying them every once in a while, just to see if there’s a gem in the midst of alot of cut glass. There’s hints of good stuff but it’s hard to judge on just the first installment, but I’m cautiously optimistic.

The Bottom Line
I’m surprised, but I liked it. The story intrigues me and the characters lured me in enough that I need to know what happens next.

Oh man...

I was so sure I was going to love this one especially since it sounds deliciously smutty. Unfortunately, this book was uneven for me. The sex is hot, partly because Cole and Hailey did not want to want each other. The plot was decent.

But...

There's something missing for me. For example, why does Hailey hate Cole that much? Sure, she hates his job but for me it wasn't enough to warrant the kind of animosity Hailey feels for Cole. They didn't have a connection before Cole took on the job of protecting her family. Some things just didn't add for me.

But the ending definitely left me intrigued enough to want to read the second book.
