It was okay. Most of the book was quite slow but I enjoyed the ending. The imagery towards the end was good as well, especially the descriptions of the woman with the bandages.

Ok so recently I read a book that I felt I was too smart to understand. This book is different. This is a book that I think I’m way too stupid to understand.
I’m sure most of the great literary themes and metaphors went right over my head. If you are a literary scholar, I’d bet you’d eat this up. I, however, hated it. 🤣
I highlighted the one quote I really loved- where the heroine gives the hero a talking-to about understanding how those living in Korea feel this extreme unresolved tension with their country being divided and the constant threat of war. It just seemed to really sum up that feeling that I can’t fully comprehend.
But other than that, this was a bust for me. I really don’t get what the author was going for with these two (very weird and not very likable) characters. It is also very high brow literary fiction in that everything is gray, dull, depressing, and awful. No happiness allowed in this story! But then again, I’m too stupid for this book. 🤣
