3/5 ⭐️ I enjoyed about half of this book. The first half, I would genuinely rate a 4 out of 5 but as soon as we got to the last couple chapters, I felt like the entire story really fell flat. We went from having an amazing battle scene which, didn’t live up to the battle scenes in the original gone series, felt as though it was a good conclusion for the book to then an ending which I found ridiculous. This spinoff series ended with a bit of a sour taste. I do think that my expectations for the series were immensely high amazing. But I do not like cliffhanger endings which aren’t going to be resolved. I do not believe that this series deserves to end with a “you can create your own ending “because I do not think that’s what we deserved after reading this book for so many years. This series has been so loved by me that it felt like a slap in the face that it ended this way. And I do think we should’ve had a proper conclusion to the entire series. it’s a spinoff series, but it is following the gone series and it has original characters from that first series in it. I do think that the original series should have been left alone, especially if I would’ve known that the last book would’ve ended in such a bad way. I think the books as a hole in the spinoff series have been really short and there hasn’t been a lot of detail overall because the books are so short. I do you think if the books were as long as the original series that we would’ve got to know the characters so much more and fell in love with them and our hearts would ache for them when things happened, and people were hurt. But I don’t think that the books were nearly long enough for us to feel as much as we felt for the original members of the gone series. I also believed that characters like Sam and Astrid and Cruz and Armo deserved an ending. We had followed these characters for so long that I do think we should’ve had a proper ending, because it felt only fair

Of the three books following the initial Gone series, this is the only one I actually liked. This story was well paced and kept me interested in the characters. I actually like the way this story ended, because it allows me to ruminate on "what if."

The ending. If you read the book you will understand what I mean. Is it a cop-out? Maybe. All I know is that after nine books I am not sure it was enough of an ending. I love the Gone world and was very happy with the ending provided by Light in the original series. Then Michael Grant created the spin-off series and I was excited to re-enter this amazing world. Now having reached the end I feel like there was no end at all, which I realize is the point he was going for, but it does not leave me feeling like it is over. I hope he writes more spin-offs, but from the Author’s Note that seems doubtful.
