Another strong volume in the series as far as art and pacing goes. However, I found the blatant cruelty and disregard for life from the characters a lot more distracting than in previous volumes, and I wasn't a fan of the big reveal of who Rachel is.

  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? It's complicated
  • Loveable characters? It's complicated

This series continues to be great. And a lot of that is Zoe and Earl. They just get better and more endearing as the story goes on (yes, a psychopath can be endearing). Sad this series will be ending soon.

Yup. Still great. Still making excellent progress towards a cohesive narrative without any completely bizarre side-treks or navel gazing.

Omnibus Sale April 2017:

I did indeed but all the Omnibus' listed in Mr. Moore's Half Off-Omnibus Sale, so I will be updating my ownership and reviews for all of these, but especially delightful is that getting the Omnibus for Rachel Rising encouraged me to finally finish the series.

I deeply love Terry Moore's art at all times and the witty way he knows how to bandy with the English language, whether harrowing love story or deep and spooky tale, the latter of which is Rachel Rising (and the prior of which is his award-winning Strangers in Paradise, which owned half my life). I loved seeing all the ways these characters went, and how they made an even stronger family unit handling all the odd things that were happening.

I love that the characters you considered most evil took twists and turns that changed, evolved, and even more integrated them into the tale being told. I was delighted with the aesthetic way the pages blur while holding it in your hand, all black edges, adding to the whole feeling of the story and the book as you were holding, it reading, being aware of the edges.

Didn't realize this was #6 but liked it anyway. Definitely a little lost on the story because of that but I got the jist of it. I'll probably read the ones (or one) after it but I don't think I want to go back and do 1-5.

I seem to keep picking up graphic novels that have some wort of Christian/religious themes but so far this is the one that works the most since it's the whole point.

The art is pretty gorgeous, too.

Lots and lots of revelations in this volume! Like who killed Rachel, and (maybe, sort of), why she didn't really die, and who she is. Is this maybe building to a conclusion? Lot of mysteries still to go, though. Like why Jet is half-dead, or whatever she is, how they're going to get ahead of Malus, and why Rachel was killed.

Still really enjoying this series.
