This is a challenging book,  but one that will stick with me for a very long time.

The main character is thoroughly unlikable, right from the start. You spend a lot of time seeing the world through his eyes. If you can stomach it, it’s a fascinating exploration of flaws, fame, class, and also family. Nothing is quite as it seems, but in a way that embraces nuance more than  outrageous twists.

This is a great exploration of the line between a person’s character and their actions, of what is good, and of the line between bad and evil.

not as good for a 5, not as bad for a 1.

i kept and kept on waiting for things to either fall apart or for them to come together and it just didn’t happen. i’ll say that the last 100 pages or so flew by, they had me hanging there…. and nothing happened

also, i don’t know if i despise or like marc just yet.

haven’t read the dinner yet, maybe i should’ve started with that, but let’s hope it’s better than this!

Strange book that I don't think is for everyone, but I enjoyed the suspense and the description of the dysfunctional group family and friends.

3.5 but that's because I feel guilty liking the writing.

He writes about such terrible people and it's upsetting how the book is great but the subject matter is so awful. BUT YOU KEEP READING IT. Even a couple days after finishing, I can't stop thinking about it and the details he focusses on. It drags in some places but that's what I've found about his books & their pacing - he hooks you, it's a little bit slow getting to the finale but the finale actually makes you react. Which then makes you feel awful you read it. I wanted to throw the book across the room in disgust at many points but it's well written.
