A nice look at what comes next, with some good character development for Penelope, but not really for Simon or Baz. Also, vampires!

Like Carry On this was very easy to read. Kinda sad throughout all of it and I’m disappointed that there was no resolution to the Baz/Simon conflict. I’m glad Agatha stopped being such a sourpuss in the end. The whole Lamb thing feels weird, like I get it but it feels like it didn’t come to a satisfying conclusion. Shephard is cool, love him, welcome to the family. Wish there were more consequences for the battle sequences, rather than just “ah i have 6 bullet wounds but lez just magic it away ez”. Never a bore to read though. I do love the characters and am very attached to all of them (except Agatha lol).

Very realistic in the sense that none of the male characters know how to talk about their feelings and deal with them in a healthy way.

I think this book suffered a bit from sequel-itis, overall it felt like filler and the main conflict with the Next Blood didn't feel fleshed out, and while I really enjoyed the characters inner conflicts and how they're processing who they are, that *also* didn't feel super fleshed out and kinda leaves the reader hanging. I think the "middle in the trilogy" vibe being too strong was my main issue, the book was mostly build up both internally and externally for the characters journeys, but then kinda doesn't go anywhere substantial.  I'm sure this will all come together nicely in the last book and I won't have any complaints, but I was surprised when there just wasn't... *more* to this book.

Oh well. Still love my babies Simon and Baz. Penelope is a doll. Agatha is an annoying wench. Fingers crossed this goes somewhere freakin GOOD in the last book.

A great follow up to Carry On. I was getting close to the end of the book and worried it would end on a cliffhanger without resolving the story.

It did resolve the story but still ended on a cliffhanger. Onto book 3...

Again, did a re-read of the first two Simon Snow books ahead of the release of Any Way the Wind Blows, and this time I read them by audiobook! Euan Morton is just as wonderful of a narrator on this as he was for Carry On. This was my first re-read of Wayward Son, and it was nice to refresh my memory on it since I read it really quickly when it first came out. I liked this one, but definitely less than Carry On. What I did enjoy in Wayward Son: SHEPARD, more depth to Agatha, and the exploration of the vampire world.
