Actually....I didn't read past page 15. That was all I could stomach of this book. This 'writer' (I use that term loosly with her) was a condescending bitch. She lost my interest when she said how superior she was to those who owned pets and basically called pet owners pathetic losers. So in to the burn pile it goes.

I was surprised that I really liked this. Among other things, I tend to hate books that suggest that I'll be single forever. However, the author was funny and the stories were engaging. I really felt like I went on Julie's world tour with her - I think the author actually went on one, so maybe that contributed to the authenticity - but I liked the stories and it made me smile.

Pap. Pure and utter pap. I chose this book in hopes of reviving a dying book club by bribing them with this which has a companion movie coming out with Rebel Wilson in it. Hope the movie is better than the book, though not sure what could be done to make it enjoyable or worthy of Wilson's comedic talents.

Nope this book is not for me. I am single. I found this book is offensive on judging singletons. Nope sorry.

Feels like the author is using this book to just reflect on their own personal feelings rather than offer much advice, felt quite repetitive.

Judy Greer narrating the audio book was so delightful. Genuinely confused how we got the movie version we did. This story was so, so great.

The amount of ethnocentrism and judgement in this book is way too high! The concept of Julie gong to and experiencing different cultures has absolutely no impact because of how ignorant and judgemental she is in every town. It's typical privelleged mentality and the fact that the protagonist of the book itself is too self-centred to truly absorb her surroundings is horrible to me.

The only reason I would give it 2 stars is because while I absolutely detested Julie for the entire book, I did follow the struggles of her friends who were all going through different scenarios and taking their own path the best they can. I mostly loved the plot of Georgia and Alice. I feel that point behind Serena having to experience disease and death and the lessons she learned from it could have been fleshed out further though.

The movie is not even remotely based off this book, it was the inspiration for a movie. Please do not go in to reading this book expecting the movie or vice versa.

I will say that this book took me a long time to get into and simply left me wondering why I kept reading it. The characters are supposedly 38 and mostly single, but they act like they are 25. It was hard to remember their actual ages as they were written and read younger. This is not a feel good book about "being single" and it kind of crushed my soul a bit. Don't read this if you are looking for a pick-me up book. Would not recommend to many readers.

This book should have been called How Not To Be Single. Rubbish.
