A difficult read, for sure. It took me a long time to finish. Very interesting with all the footnotes from the translator. I feel I have gained from reading this book. Even though I did not understand it all fully.

Disturbing and difficult word structure, both of which made it hard to read. The symbolism was a little fun to work out, but the antiquated views on morality and hell of the time calls for some strange and horrible punishments.

Almost all are obligated to attend. What vision and imagination Dante had to describe the worst place possible for humankind. It is a forerunner to horror fiction that first appeared as a genre in, 'Otranto,' by Horace Walpole.

Honestly wackier than I was expecting. Some very evocative portions, and many parts where I could barely imagine what was going on (need a terrible diagram of some cantos). Mostly seemed like an excuse to talk smack about a lot of people Dante didn't like?

Dante did seem to really like frogs, though, so that's a point in his favor.

this book is filled with so much symbolism. had to read very slowly in case i missed anything. it’s important to know about Dantes history before reading this. amazing technique and an amazing story and plot.
