Started off finding the protagonist pretty intolerable and I found myself rolling my eyes a bit, but eventually warmed to the story and characters as it progressed. A cute rom-com and fun palette cleanser after reading a heavy thriller and heart wrenching novel back to back! Would recommend if you're looking for something light-hearted and easy. Finished in a day.

Loved the Hawaiian setting. 🍍
It takes about half the book for the ice to melt in this slow burn, one bed, forced proximity, fake relationship, contemporary romance. About 75% in, Olive's life gets messy and unfair, but thankfully there is a Happily Ever After!

I was not a fan of Ethan continuing to call Olive by the wrong name, even during intimate moments (such as calling her Olivia instead of Olive). At first it was intentional as they didn't get along and were trying to instigate. But then it became cringe when they were falling in love and Ethan kept saying other women's names. Given his brother's cheating behavior, this was an ick factor for me.

p.102/25%: Wouldn't a scientist —especially one with a PhD in Biology— say sea star, as starfish is considered an inaccurate name?

p. 358/84%: OMG! Badass move by Ami!

I thought I didn’t like romance books, but Christina Lauren has proved me wrong. I thoroughly enjoyed this rom com and am so glad I gave it a chance! I inhaled this book. The banter between Olive and Ethan had me laughing out loud, and then their love story made me giddy right along with them. There were twists I didn’t see coming. The predicaments were hilarious. This could have been cringey or corny, but it wasn’t. It had unexpected depth. It felt grounded and the characters were complex enough to make it all feel real. I appreciated the subplots of sibling bonds and the general theme of family support. Lauren’s writing made it feel like I was sitting in the little apartment with the Torres family or in Olive’s head with her anxiety. The growth of the characters was heartening and there was real emotion and problems without it being a heavy read. It was the refreshing and uplifting read I needed during the dreary January weather, and I recommend this novel to anyone needing a pick-me-up or feel good romance.

I decided to pick this back up again after a year or so. I had initially listened to maybe ten minutes of it and it hadn’t quite captured me then. I do really like Christina Lauren’s more recent novels and this is a very popular one so I figured I’d give it another shot.

Olive and Ethan find themselves posing as her twin sister Amy and his brother (whose name has completely left my memory) who have just gotten married. Amy and husband (as well as everyone at the wedding, except for Olive and Ethan!) get horrific food poisoning and can’t go on their Hawaiian honeymoon. Enter Olive and Ethan. Who hate each other.

The story follows these two as they try to steer clear of each other while also keeping up appearances as newlyweds to everyone on the island. They run into Olive’s new boss and Ethan’s ex-(almost)fiancĂ©e among other unexpected adventures.

Overall, this was an easy and enjoyable read but nothing remarkable.

Your average enemies to lovers romance, this book was okay but was still pretty generic fluff. I did love Ethan and olives banger but nonetheless the tropes in this book are just way too overdone so it wasn’t something new to read.

I also kind of hated how
their happiness relies on olives twin ami having to suffer during and after her wedding due to finding out Ethan’s brother she just married was a cheat and that she got food poisoning at her own wedding !

Overall I’d recommend it as a light beginner rom-com as it’s fade to black with enough basic tropes but I won’t be keeping my copy.

I absolutely loved this! I am always here for a good rom-com and was drawn in from the very first page. The banter between Olive and Ethan was so perfect and there were so many moments when I actually laughed out loud, which I love. This felt like watching a Hallmark movie and was perfect for a light December read. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because there were moments when both Olive and Ethan annoyed me and I was just like “🙄🙄🙄” but overall I truly loved this one.
