The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren is fun enemies to lovers story with lucky Ami marrying her dream man Dane and her unlucky identical twin sister Olive, as maid of honour in a truly hideous green dress, needing to play nice with Ethan, brother of the soon to be husband.

Unfortunately Ami and Dane experience the worst of bad luck at their wedding reception when everyone, apart from Olive and Ethan, come down with violent food poisoning! Cue a comedy of errors when Olive is forced to fly to Hawaii for the holiday of a lifetime with her nemesis...

It was a cute read over a weekend when the clocks changed and I could curl up in bed and enjoy a book where I did not need to think too much at all! It was filled to the brim with everything you would expect from a story of two people who start as enemies and end up in bed together!

Fun, lighthearted palette cleanser. Reads like a fanfiction to me. Very minor smut scenes (~2), but not spicy.

As my first foray into Christina Lauren, I'd consider this a success! Not immediately a new favorite, but I wouldn't shy away from any of their other books.

I was mainly impressed that the heat level suited my tastes nearly exactly; not closed door, but just a couple sentences, without much detail. The final act (and the "Olive working on herself") portion dragged on a bit too long for me, and I lost a little faith in Ethan. But I did like how well-rounded all the characters were and it was overall a decent little romance story.

Do not be misled by the fact I finished this book in two days. I was not a fan. The characters felt very one dimensional and there wasn't anything organic about the relationship or events occuring. The first half made me cringe with awkwardness and the second half left me frustrated. I skimmed the epilogue because I wanted to be done. I will admit though, it made me laugh out loud from time to time in between the bad moments, and that was the most redeeming part of the story. I don't plan to read book 2

This book was everything. I love a good enemies*-to-lovers and fake relationship as much as the next guy, but they went about it in such a way that didn’t feel redundant or entirely cliche. The last couple of chapters especially really hit me right in the feels, and I genuinely can’t wait to reread this.

*Misunderstood enemies, if you will. Also, I was completely fucking gagged that Dane was a dickhead as a plot point, like I would’ve never guessed that and maybe I’m slow because avoiding a trip on Valentine’s Day is insane but hey
