Another winner by Christina Lauren, featuring not-quite enemies to lovers with an only-one bed trope. Ethan and Olive are the only two members of a large wedding party who don't get food poisoning, and are convinced to take the honeymoon together, as a vacation. While there, they discover that hate is a passionate emotion that is rather close to love. They clear the air on their history, and discover some secrets being held. Both of these cause problems back home.

While there is a food poisoning subplot, the graphic depictions of vomit and vomiting were way over the top.

Hmmmm so I really enjoyed reading this and would have rated it higher because I usually quite enjoy books with flawed MCs. Buuut the MMC's reactions later kept bugging me. Spoilers below.
The way he responds to the Olive initially thinking Dane was a cheater actually didn't bug me as I was like alright sure he wants to believe in his brother (don't know why since it seems like his brother has been openly shitty but fine some blinders were up). What kept bugging me was his reaction when she said, after his continued probing when she just wanted to go sort her thoughts out alone first, that Dane had propositioned her for sex. Even when she asked him what she could possibly gain from making that up, he just insults her instead. Maybe it was because it made me think of all the women who try to come forward about being harassed and aren't believed. And maybe it was because then he shows up in a Hawaiian shirt while she's working (which like, hello, during your service job? Fuck no that's so stressful) and she caves immediately after having been so rational! Like girl ask to speak privately about this because he really fucked with you. Idk I get that that'd drag the ending but damn I was just thinking this is so fucking weird...
but it's great writing so I stuck around lol

I’m usually not one to gravitate towards rom-com’s but this book was recommended by a friend and boy was I pleased. This book was such an enjoyable story that had me giggling like no tomorrow. I loved following along Olive and Ethan’s journey and seeing how their unlikely pairing blossomed on this unexpected vacation!

Started off finding the protagonist pretty intolerable and I found myself rolling my eyes a bit, but eventually warmed to the story and characters as it progressed. A cute rom-com and fun palette cleanser after reading a heavy thriller and heart wrenching novel back to back! Would recommend if you're looking for something light-hearted and easy. Finished in a day.

Loved the Hawaiian setting. 🍍
It takes about half the book for the ice to melt in this slow burn, one bed, forced proximity, fake relationship, contemporary romance. About 75% in, Olive's life gets messy and unfair, but thankfully there is a Happily Ever After!

I was not a fan of Ethan continuing to call Olive by the wrong name, even during intimate moments (such as calling her Olivia instead of Olive). At first it was intentional as they didn't get along and were trying to instigate. But then it became cringe when they were falling in love and Ethan kept saying other women's names. Given his brother's cheating behavior, this was an ick factor for me.

p.102/25%: Wouldn't a scientist —especially one with a PhD in Biology— say sea star, as starfish is considered an inaccurate name?

p. 358/84%: OMG! Badass move by Ami!

This book is in a contemporary setting and thus I expected to be a bit more realistic. But just all the lucky things her sister got or how she got her wedding/honeymoon seemed over the top and too much.

It also is not an enemies to lovers, because there is a miscommunication trope, which I'm not a fan of.

Also the way Olive was being gaslit so fk hard is not funny. And tbh ut triggered something in me, that part was very realistically written. But I didn't like the 'resolving' part with her sister and the MMC. It felt too rushed and I was so shocked that she forgave her sister so quickly. I was very annoyed with that.

Your average enemies to lovers romance, this book was okay but was still pretty generic fluff. I did love Ethan and olives banger but nonetheless the tropes in this book are just way too overdone so it wasn’t something new to read.

I also kind of hated how
their happiness relies on olives twin ami having to suffer during and after her wedding due to finding out Ethan’s brother she just married was a cheat and that she got food poisoning at her own wedding !

Overall I’d recommend it as a light beginner rom-com as it’s fade to black with enough basic tropes but I won’t be keeping my copy.
