Amazing read. It's so sweet and so tender. It's tells the story about the struggles to be a human being in a world that can be cruel. It's even harder if you don't see yourself fitting in anywhere, like you don't belong. It's simply about being a human being with thoughts and feelings that want to be heard. The need to be someone, to yourself, your loved ones and the world around you. To exist is to know your alive. To live is to feel, to explore, to discover.

Discover the secrets of the universe is a journey of becoming the most authentic version of yourself, with all your imperfections and flaws but also all the beauty and greatness you carry within you. It's about stumbling and falling onto unexpected things that may pull you into the deep well of the unknown. Wich may be scary and disoriented at first, but then when you get back out of it you are so much richer than you were before. Expanding what you once knew to be something you could have never imagined.

It's a story about redefining love withing yourself and love ones. How complicated love in itself is and to translate even harder sometimes. It shows you that everyone carries scars of life with them; but it's a choice to let that define you or let it transform you. Most of the time we drown in a sea of sadness or anger. Creating a world of illusions were we are the ones directing and controlling everything that may or may not overcome us. But at the end of the day we know the lying has to stop and we have to confront reality heads on. Go to the root of the problem. Thats the beginning of a life long process, cause healing takes time.

But the power of love and the virtue of patience really is all we need sometimes.

I am so in love with this book words literally cannot express how much I absolutely adored this book. Aristotle and Dante’s relationship was beautiful and heartbreaking and so relatable and I am immediately going to devour the sequel because I need more from these boys I love them so much and honestly I don’t even care that I had some critiques of this book because they are just the perfect couple & I just loved how their relationship was based on their emotional connection and showed how their relationship evolved throughout the years. Such a beautiful  read. 😭❤️

Some things I loved about this book: the easygoing and quick paced writing style, Dante’s stubbornness and confidence in himself, Ari’s beautiful and heartbreaking journey, the representation of family, the little quips about what it means to be Mexican, the complicated conversations and sometimes funny about sexuality, the pure love these characters have for each other as they truly are, and Lin-Manuel Miranda’s narration for the audiobook.

I'm writing this review after my first reread. This book is fantastic. It took me longer than expected to read but that was because I decided to annotate it and there was sooo much I wanted to annotate. I put in 35 tabs for the most important things but I underlined something on every second page. After reading it for the first time I gave it 4 stars but I'm going to change it to 5 stars now because I love it. Benjamin Alire Saenz really has a way with words. He manages to capture human emotions and thoughts in such small and basic sentences. It feels so honest and raw and I would truly recommend this book to everyone. Especially though to queer boys who come from religious or conservative backgrounds and are trying to come to terms with their sexuality.

So this was a birthday present from. @books_and_tea89 and has been on my wish list for a while. And it was everything I wanted it to be and more!

First thing you should know, this is extremely character driven, not plot driven. Its a slow burner of activity so if you like plenty of plot twists and action, this may not be for you. I am usually like that but these characters have been developed so exquisitely it absolutely didn't matter

Ari and Dante are beautiful beautiful human beings inside and out, and I adored getting to know them and follow their journey. The story is told through Ari's eyes, and he is a complex, tender soul who captured my heart completely. I cried with him, I loved with him, I fought fiercely with him. I genuinely ached when reading this book, especially seeing Ari's relationship with his family change over time. To summarize key themes, I would say hope, teenage mentality of the time and unconditional love in its many forms

I can't say much more without giving away anything, but for a spellbinding emotional read I urge you to pick up this gem. I only realised how much it had touched me once it had ended - I will be thinking about this book for a long long time

Short chapters. We're talking 2-5 pages. I personally love that!
