My late friend Joanna McKee’s favorite book. Required reading for any human, queer or straight. The writing is clear as air. It is warm, insightful, funny, and completely charming, just like Joanna.  A strong hug that is so kind, it makes you cry.

Healing. Revisionist. I loved it. There were a couple of weird moments, though. I especially didn't understand the author's choice
to have the brother murder a trans sex worker. That was a really dark detail that pulled me out of the story and I don't understand it's thematic significance.

This is my favorite book ever! It is the perfect representation of growing up queer and just dealing with life in general as a teenager

This book had been on my shelf for ten years. I don't know why I didn't read it before. I guess I thought, so many books you are told they are great but then you read them & they are not, but this one is actually very good.
I get very sad, because 1987, but then, not all the stories are sad & that one is fictional.
