It's a time period that I'm extremely interested in and yet I wanted to take the three tined fork and drive it repeatedly into thine own skull.

I almost bailed on this book about 72 times but still kept on. I should have marked it DNF after the first 1/4.

Great twist, the last paragraph says all you need to know! How people can believe what they want to!

Thee will find it drones on and on. It was an okay story but could have been half the pages and 3/4 fewer thous and thees.

A bit slow to start but a satisfying ending! Well-written and thought-provoking.

Mary Deerfield has had enough, for years she has dealt with the cruelty of her husband, she’s hidden the bruising, the scars. She’s made up stories and excuses but as he plunged the fork into her hand, she decided she was done.
Unfortunately for Mary, the year is 1662 and the Puritan way of life is anything but easy. When she files for divorce, the town and judges see her as not a woman seeking justice but a witch looking for revenge. Her husband says she’s willful and stubborn, her servant girl claims she’s seen Mary bury objects in the garden and neighbors have witnessed her friendship with the town’s spinster. All fingers point to some sort of sorcery, and Mary must prove her innocence.
A tale that takes the reader deep within the Puritan way of life and on the fringes of resistance. Mary is faithful, however she’s not afraid to stand up for what is right. She holds fast to her convictions and even in the end when it all seems hopeless, she stays true to herself. An addictive thriller, well written and engaging. It’s simply a need to read!
