Dark, depressing, and most of the characters were frustrating. I liked the ending, and did not think it would happen. I think this book could have been edited to be a lot half as long as it was, it seemed extremely repetitive.
This book felt like a perfect combination of historically accurate witchcraft and a gripping story about a stepped on and tired woman. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.

This book was very well written and just had a really good plot line, all around!

First book by this author and now I want to try more. The journey that I went on and the suspicions that I made, oh my gosh! My mind was just a twisting. Who is the witch/Devil? Why would they do that? Who is protecting them? I thought I had answers and then I didn’t. I really want to know if Catherine and Thomas would have gotten together in different circumstances. They seemed so right for each other other than the status part.
I enjoyed this book. I thought there would be more gore and horrific scenes, but I’m not disappointed. More witchy things would have been nice. 4/5 stars!

Overall very good if you are studying or interested in puritan culture and thought process. If you are wanting a witchy novel this isn't exactly it. It has some long dialogues that on audio I listened to at 2X speed to get through it lol. I felt impatient to know what big thing may happen and it felt underwhelming. But I do love that some of the themes brought up were on a woman's birthright to sexual pleasure, and at the very least kind treatment by their partners. Was grateful for how it ended with the story progression! But kinda 50/50 on recommending honestly. Mostly because I had a different idea of what it was- to be fair. The author obviously did a lot of research on puritans and i learned a lot about how they viewed their faith and purpose on earth.
