I am so glad I was not alive in 1662.

The book is well-researched and the misogyny is truly relatable, even in the 21st century. However, the Hour of the Witch is unnecessarily long, with not one but TWO courtroom dramas playing out in painstaking detail down to the smallest, most irrelevant witness testimony, which did get very trying (pun intended). The climax, where our protagonist gets some form of vindication, felt very rushed after having sat through the long-winded plot leading up to it. 3/5

I am a little late in picking this one up, but glad I finally got around to reading it. This was dark, twisty and disturbing, but I still really enjoyed it. I liked watching Mary try to stand up for herself, even when everyone doubted her and blamed her. This was a compelling read that I struggled to put down. I was convinced I had figured out the direction this story was taking, never guessed right. The ending we got was better than anything I had imagined.
