I liked this book but unlike the Heartstopper series I felt like it shied away from difficult topics almost immediately which is what I think failed the story from progressing in a more meaningful way. Even the romance felt forced due to the characters not being open with each other about issues that were brought up but quickly moved on from.

I would continue in this series but hope that that changes in the sequel at least a little bit because I like the characters and the found family aspect of the team but it feels negligent to bring up mental health issues, self-harm, and even dealing with a homophobic teammate and then to not address them in a meaningful way. Every issue seems very easily glossed over by the way of them just being friends and that solving everything which doesn’t really work.

Check Please was so endearing! I enjoyed it for the lightness, romantic tension and sincerity it brought. I also just miss being around the hockey world, so it was fun to jump back in for a little bit. It was exactly what I needed :)

Listen, I know fuckall about hockey, but it's Pride, and I'd heard good things, so I went for it. And I was not disappointed!
Going in, I thought it was going to be a romance. It's not, which is fine because the friendships are so good. Bitty is a charmer, and his weirdly sweet, wholesome relationships with his rowdy hockey bro teammates are a delight. No casual homophobia, no struggle to be accepted...Bitty comes out to them, and they continue to treat him the same way they always have. We love to see it.

Was a bit too bro-y with the members of the team for my taste, just a lot of college partying etc.  Having more of an interest in hockey might’ve helped. Would rec if you’re into slow burn queer hockey graphic novels.

This graphic novel was super cute and heartwarming. It kept me engaged the whole way through (except for the tweets at the end). The romance was a very slow burn and was not really the main focus of this graphic novel. Sometimes the plot jumped ahead too quickly for me (stuff got left out that I wanted to read). I look forward to reading the sequel!
