A who dunnit murder mystery based in 1950's California, the claustrophobic heat and racist and misogynist atmosphere of the decade are vividly created by the author in this debut that has a beautiful cover of a clear blue swimming pool. there are some flashes of humour, and you cant help feeling that the police are more keystone cops than Columbo in their ability to solve this murder. A treat in terms of the author creating the heat and picturing the american houses all very perfect with white picket fences and perfectly cut lawns.

 Mysterious, Gripping, Unexpected.

This book is not at all what I thought it was going to be like. It was thoroughly engaging and gripping. I enjoyed it. Ruby was by far my favourite character. I was rooting for her from the start.

When I received this book, I thought the covering was nice and intriguing. I can't wait to read the author's other work.

If you enjoy whodunnits with a good bit of suspense in them then I highly recommend this book. There are a few trigger warnings for it so feel free to message me about them.

Thank you to The Book Resort for the book which I received in a gifted subscription.

Habe die Kombination aus Gesellschaftskritik und Krimi sehr geliebt, hier und da war es etwas over the top, was der Spannung und dem Lesevergnügen aber keinen Abbruch getan hat :)
