I wasn't familiar with the island of Guernsey before this book so I did a little reading about it prior (online) and it helped me picture the descriptions in the novel. It was a wonderful read, didn't want it to end. Will look into more of this author's work.

This is one of my favorite novels I've read so far this year. The setting and description was absolutely beautiful-I think that is what drew me in the most. Vivienne is a wonderful protagonist-vulnerable, slightly sad, but above all a mother to her two children. The ending was sad, as is to be expected with many WWII novels set on the homefront, and the very last part was slightly disappointing for me. It just didn't sit well, as though the ending was tied up with a bow. Other than that, this is a highly recommended, slightly lighter novel.

Excellent historical romance about Nazi-occupied Guernsey (who knew?).

I always enjoy books that educate me while telling a story. Set in Guernsey during WWII this shows the Nazi occupation in a way I hadn't imagined. It never occurred to me that the Nazis brought slave labor to fortify this island. An interesting story of conflicting allegiances.

Slow pace and more romance than about the War. Which i usually read in WWII theme book.

Vivienne is the soldier's wife, Eugene. Who lived with her 2 daughters and her mom in law.

One day the German Soldier were occupy their island in Guernsey. They couldn't live as free as before, they had a curfew, they must obey the German.

Poor vivienne, because the German were become her neighbour. One of the Soldier, Ghunter who had a scar in his face, took attention to her. She often peek at his activity, behind her bedroom window.

Her journey with the forbidden love begins...

Loved this book! A sucker punch right to the feels. I sure do love WW2 stories. This is my second book about Guernsey and I want to visit someday.

Beautiful setting and premise, but utterly predictable with flat characters and a disappointing, contrived ending.

Maybe one of the most interesting books I've read so far - even I fall in love with Guernsey (I promise that I'm going to that place some day!).
Leroy's writing is extremely easy to follow, and Vivienne is such a great major character. The only thing that kept me kind of worried was about an article I've read a couple of years ago about how did the French people reacted regarding the women that had an affair with the Nazis during the War as a shameful punishment; even thou the book is set in the lovely Guernsey, I couldn't stop wondering "is this going to happen with her in the future?".
